Ooligan Press at the 2007 NCTE Convention

Ooligan Press representatives will be at the National Council of Teacher's of English (NCTE) convention in New York City this week, from November 15-18. We will be in booth #569, sharing classroom publishing resources, spreading the word about the Classroom Publishing book, and interviewing teachers.

If you have a story to tell, we would like to interview you about your work. We hope to connect with as many educators as possible and conduct interviews during the convention. We will only need about an hour of your time at some point during the weekend. If you would like to share information about the work you are doing in your classroom, stop by our booth (569) during the convention!

Classroom Publishers Sought for Upcoming Book

Attention Educators:

Do you make books with your students? What about newspapers, comic books, zines, blogs, wikis, websites, newsletters, or publications of any kind? If you are working to inspire students by bringing their work to a larger audience, Ooligan Press wants to hear your story.

Who We Are

Ooligan Press is a one-of-a-kind, nonprofit publishing house run by the graduate students and faculty of the Master’s in Writing and Book Publishing Program at Portland State University. We are producing a book that will be packed with practical advice about classroom publishing and a broad range of projects—from first graders using crayons and scissors to high school students bloging on the Internet. The book, which will be a second edition of Classroom Publishing: A Guide to Enhancing Student Literacy, will be a resource guide and source of inspiration that can be applied to any classroom, regardless of budget, age group, subject area, or demographic.

In 1992, Laurie King and Dennis Stovall published the first edition of Classroom Publishing. The book was a herald of the coming explosion in integrating publishing practices in curriculum. It was an invaluable resource for educators, but a lot has changed in fifteen years. While Stovall went on to start Ooligan Press and the Master’s in Publishing Program, technology vastly expanded the possibilities for publishing in classrooms. It’s time to update the book with current practices and techniques.

How You Can Participate

If you have a story to tell and tips to share, we would like to interview you about your work. Please email us at ooligan.classroom@pdx.edu and we will contact you to set an interview. Even if you aren’t interested in being interviewed, drop us an email and we will add you to our list and notify you when the book is released.
